Why December Is the Most Underrated Month for Vibe Consultants

How to double down, plant seeds, and make the tax man pay for your Q1 pipeline

December 6th, 2025
Read Time: 6 minutes

I was just talking to one of my 1:1 clients this morning. We were both looking at the calendar, realizing there are only a few weeks left in the year. I told him what I tell everyone in December:

Now is the time to double down, not slow down.

Here’s the thing most people miss: December is when you can take massive advantage of the tax season, especially in the US. Business owners can pay for an audit or consulting now, write it off against this year’s taxes, and then get the work done in January. That’s money they didn’t have to send to the government, and you get paid now.

But here’s the real secret: while a lot of people are coasting, the real decision-makers, the business owners, the people with the problems and the budgets—are still hustling. They’re working right up until Christmas Eve. They’re the ones you want to reach, and they’re the ones who will actually respect you for reaching out and grinding when everyone else is checked out.

If you’re the person who’s still showing up, still sending messages, still making calls, you stand out. You look like someone who’s serious about business. And that’s who business owners want to work with.

Even if they don’t move forward right now, you’re planting seeds for Q1. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a conversation in December that turned into a deal in January or February. The extra outreach you do now pays off later.

I’ll be honest: December does take more effort. People are a little more distracted, inboxes are a little more crowded, and you might have to send more messages to get the same number of responses. But that’s exactly why you should over-index on outreach. I’d rather do a little more work now and have a full pipeline in January than take my foot off the gas and start the year scrambling.

And don’t forget the tax angle. I always mention it in my outreach: “Pay for it now, write it off this year, and we’ll kick off the work in January. It’s a win-win.”

I’ve seen some really creative outreach this time of year, too. Christmas cards, handwritten notes, even custom chocolate decorations. One client of mine wanted a meeting with a multibillion-dollar firm, so he sent the decision-maker a $250 whiskey basket with his favorite bottle. Did it cost a bit? Sure. But he got the meeting, and that led to a huge opportunity. Sometimes, being memorable is worth every penny.

If you’re going to send something, make it personal and selfless. Don’t slap your logo on a pen and call it a gift. Give them something cool, something they’ll remember. Even if they don’t use your services now, you can follow up in January and they’ll remember you.

Looking back, I wish I’d pushed even harder in past Decembers. I always worked hard, but I’d stop around the 22nd and coast into the holidays. The truth is, the people who are chilling out aren’t the ones running companies. The ones at the top are working as hard as ever, and they’re the ones who can pay you.

So here’s my advice:
Don’t let December be a dead month. Double down. Reach out to your network, your past clients, your prospects. Mention the tax benefit, offer to start the work in January, and keep planting seeds. The people who hustle now are the ones who start Q1 with momentum.
