What's Working, What's Changed, and Where the Money Is

Why the margins are better, the tools are insane, and the window is wider open than ever

Let's get real: the AI consulting landscape has shifted dramatically in the last 60 days. Not in a "new trend" kind of way, but in a fundamental, game-changing way that most people haven't caught up with yet.

If you're still thinking about AI consulting the way you were six months ago, you're already behind. Here's what's actually happening right now, what's working, and where the real money is.

The Biggest Shift: McKinsey-Level Deliverables in 15 Minutes

The single biggest change I've seen recently is what's happening with Consultix. We're in beta right now, and the results are blowing people's minds.

LinkedIn is still the most lucrative channel for most consultants. If you're not posting, connecting, and messaging on LinkedIn every day, you're leaving money on the table.

Cold calling is making a comeback. People in the community are picking up the phone and getting through to decision-makers faster than any other channel. Don't sleep on this one.

Networking groups, ads, LinkedIn automation, cold email, and referrals are all working well for this offer. The key is to be doing all of them, not just one.

The consultants who are winning right now are the ones doing every type of outreach, automating what they can, and going absolutely crazy with whatever's working.

How Clients Think About AI in 2026

Here's the honest truth: clients haven't changed that much in terms of their AI knowledge. Most of them still don't really understand what's possible. But what has changed is the wow factor of what we can deliver.

Before, you'd show a client a complicated-looking flow in N8N and say, "We plugged it in here and here." Now, you're showing them a custom dashboard, a bespoke solution built specifically for their business, and they're saying, "This is incredible."

Clients only care about outcomes. But when the outcomes come with a level of polish and customization that feels like it was built by a 50-person agency, the trust goes through the roof.

And from our side? The margins have gone up substantially. What used to be a 50/50 split on implementation is now 80%+ gross margin. The cost to deliver has dropped, the quality has gone up, and the wow factor has never been higher.

Where the Biggest Money Is Right Now

Audits are still the best entry point for non-technical consultants. They're the fastest way to get in the door, build trust, and identify the opportunities that lead to bigger deals.

But the real money is in implementations. With Claude Code and the tools we have now, you can build custom solutions with 80%+ gross margins. That's insane. And because you built the solution, the retainer conversation is natural: "We built this, we're going to maintain it for you."

The retainer model is getting easier to sell because clients understand that custom solutions need ongoing support. And once you're on retainer, you can upsell new features, new automations, and new solutions as their needs evolve.

Two tools are dominating right now:

Gemini for design and websites is insane. The quality of what you can produce for clients, websites, infographics, presentations, is at a level that used to require a full design team.

I haven't dived deep into OpenClaw yet, but it's on my radar. The pace of tool development right now is relentless, and the consultants who stay on top of it are the ones who win.

Where the Demand Is

Honestly? Every niche has demand right now. There's no single "hot" niche that's outperforming everything else. The opportunity is everywhere.

The key is to pick a niche you know, go deep, and become the go-to person for AI consulting in that space. The demand will find you.

The Biggest Mistake Right Now

Not taking aggressive action. Full stop.

I see people sitting on the sidelines, saying "I don't know enough yet" or "I'm not ready." Meanwhile, the people who are winning are the ones who just went for it. They're using every tool available, doing every type of outreach, and figuring it out as they go.

The opportunity is here right now. The window is wide open. But it won't stay this way forever.

My Prediction for the Next 90 Days

Here's what I see coming:

The margins are only going to get better. As tools like Claude Code and Consultix mature, the cost to deliver will keep dropping while the quality keeps going up.

Custom solutions are going to become the standard. The days of "we'll plug in a generic automation" are over. Clients want bespoke, and now we can deliver it.

The one-person consulting firm is going to become a real force. With a team of consultants doing audits, a handful of engineers punching like a thousand developers with AI, and a platform delivering custom solutions at scale, the dream of a 50-person Vibe Consulting firm that sells for serious money is now very much a reality.

And as more people get educated about what's possible, the opportunity only gets bigger. We're still in the early innings.

My #1 Piece of Advice Right Now

Take insanely aggressive action. That's it. The people who are winning right now are the ones who are doing everything, every type of outreach, every tool, every channel, until they find what works, and then going absolutely crazy with it.

Don't overthink it. Don't wait until you're "ready." Just go.
